HRA launches Edith Coliver Human Rights Fellowship fundraising campaign with a word from HRA’s President:
Human Rights Advocates is very excited to announce a special fundraising campaign to support its 2016 Edith Coliver Fellowship Program. This web-based campaign, the first of its kind for HRA, aims to provide funding for two fellowship positions for graduating law students this year. The fellows’ work is expected to take place in late summer and fall, when many recent law grads are awaiting Bar results and searching for permanent positions. An HRA fellowship is a remarkable opportunity to gain actual work experience in the field of human rights.
In 2010 HRA awarded me a Fellowship in collaboration with the Huairou Commission to carry forward work on issues concerning the human right to food. So, as a former HRA fellow myself, I can attest to the quality professional development experience the positions represent for recent graduates. My fellowship included unforgettable field work in India and Nepal, drafting case studies (later published and still available online here and here!) and culminated in a public talk and presentation at an HRA-sponsored event. Other recent HRA fellows have gone on to practice law in the fields in which they worked as HRA fellows.
In recent months, HRA’s Board of Directors has placed special focus on developing and expanding the Edith Coliver Fellowship Program, so we are especially excited to launch this fundraising campaign!
