Can International Human Rights Law Help?
We are currently witnessing the largest and most rapid escalation ever in the number of people being forced from their homes. UNHCR estimates that over 21 million people worldwide have left their homes to seek safety from war, conflict and persecution. Many countries of asylum do not respect the human rights of refugees – who fear arrest, detention and deportation. Why are people fleeing? Where are people going? How are countries, including the US, responding? And how can international human rights law make a difference?
Please join HRA, Asylum Access, the USF Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic and co-sponsoring organizations listed below, to learn from global and local experts on the crisis who are working to protect the human rights of refugees:
Jessica Morreale Therkelsen, Esq., Global Director of Advocacy and Communications, Asylum Access: Implementing strategies globally to restore power and agency to refugees
Co-sponsored by Asylum Access, International Justice Resource Center, Student Outreach for Refugees, Asylees, and Immigrants (SORAI), and the Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice.
